Natural History Museum, Palaeontology Conservation Unit (PCU)
Monday, September 21

A guided tour of the facilities and explanation of the history and work of the PCU is on offer. Chris Collins and colleagues will show and tell.

The PCU is a world leader in conservation and fossil preparation. The philosophy is to educate and the practice is to publish. The facilities are impressive and a visit is well worthwhile.

The tour will be just a morning, starting at 10 a.m. By 1 p.m. you are free to continue the visit into the Natural History Museum (free). Meet promptly at 10 a.m. and we can all stay on schedule! Bring a bottle of water as no tea or lunch is on the menu.

The NHM is easy to get to in South Kensington. From there it is very easy to make it to Victoria Train Station from which to catch a train to Bristol. Not much further is the Victoria Bus station from where very economic bus tickets can be bought. Tickets go for as low as 5 GBP. In both cases it is strongly advised to pre-book your ticket well in advance to keep prices down. Prices go up rapidly in the UK, especially for the train.

A typical economy hotel room in London costs up to 50 GBP for people who fly in the night before.

Please note there will be no collections access during this week, so even if people want to visit the NHM they will not be able to do a collections visit at the same time.

Meet at: 10 a.m. at the Bronze Gate Entrance on Exhibition Road (side entrance with Porter)
