History and Coverage


The Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (or JVP) was founded in 1980 at the University of Oklahoma by Dr. Jiri Zidek, with financial support from the University of Oklahoma Presidential Associates Fund; publication of the JVP was continued in 1984 by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. It publishes original contributions on all aspects of the subject, including vertebrate origins, evolution, functional morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, taphonomy, paleobiogeography, and paleoanthropology.

Editorial Staff


The Editorial Staff of the JVP is appointed by the Publications Committee and includes the Senior Editor, Managing Editor, Technical Editor, Memoirs  Editor, Managing Editor, Book Reviews Editor, and Advertising Editor,  working with an Editorial Board consisting of respected specialists  in the various sub-disciplines of vertebrate paleontology.

The book of abstracts is made available electronically, with hard copy at extra cost, to all members and meeting attendees and generally available via the SVP Web site after the annual meeting.
